About The Coastal Mercantile
The Coastal Mercantile was founded by the Carlisle Family in March 2019 in Rockport, Texas, born from a love of beautiful spaces, meaningful connection, and community. After many years of raising a family and building a business in Austin, the Carlisles embraced a second career on the coast—one rooted in creativity, hospitality, and service.
Opening just two years after Hurricane Harvey, The Coastal Mercantile became a place where neighbors and visitors alike could find inspiration while rebuilding and reimagining their homes. With a thoughtful eye for décor and design, the shop offered more than beautiful goods—it provided guidance, encouragement, and a sense of renewal during a time of recovery for the Rockport community.
In late 2020, an exciting opportunity arose when one of the family’s favorite historic buildings in downtown Rockport became available. With the support of friends and family, The Coastal Mercantile relocated in January 2021 and expanded into a hybrid Rockport boutique and wine bar. From this vision, 406 Wine Bar was born, offering a carefully curated selection of interesting wines by the glass or bottle.
What began as an intimate wine experience has since grown into a vibrant gathering space featuring a spacious outdoor patio, weekly live music, and an enclosed children’s play area. Today, The Coastal Mercantile and 406 Wine Bar have become a staple of downtown Rockport—a place where shopping, relaxation, and community come together.
